National Donut Day!

Happy National Donut Day! Jared called me a few minutes ago from work telling me that we HAD to celebrate National Donut Day. If it wasn't for him I would have missed this phenomenal holiday. I did a little background research and found out that "National Donut Day is on the first Friday of June each year and follows on the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. The holiday celebrates the doughnut (a.k.a "donut") — an edible, torus-shaped piece of dough which is deep-fried and sweetened" (Wikipedia, 2010). I have also always been curious on whether doughnut should be spelled donut or doughnut. According to Yahoo Answers "both spellings are acceptable here in the United States." To celebrate this holiday both Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts are giving away free donuts. For a random piece of trivia, according to Google "national doughnut day" is the 54th most popular search in the last hour (5:00 pm). For dessert tonight we are going to go find somewhere to get a tasty donut. I hope you do the same.

Easter Part 2: The Rebel

As I mentioned in my previous blog I organized an amazing Easter egg hunt for Jared in celebration of Easter. He had promised to organize one for me but was waiting for "something" to come in the mail. He seemed super excited about the hunt and was finally able to put it together yesterday when I came home from work. As I walked in the front door I saw a beautiful Easter basket with Peeps, Reeces peanut butter bunnies and a plastic egg. Inside of the egg was a clue. These clues then led me all over the house in circles, to our mail box and then finally the trunk of our Honda. The last clue I found was a description of a date we had been on where we went up to the Snow Bowl and ate Burger King cheeseburgers. He then told me to get into the car. Sitting on the front seat was the burgers and some fries. My taste buds immediately started going crazy. As we drove up to the Snow Bowl I had to distract myself from eating all of the food. We got up to our favorite look-out, over looking most of Northern Arizona and devoured our food.

After eating I wanted to play with our Aerobie, the high performance frisbee. Jared then asked me to grab it out of the car. As I went to grab the Aerobie I spotted a professional camera bag sitting right next to it. Feeling weak I looked at Jared with unbelief in my eyes. Sitting in that bag was the EOS Canon Rebel XS that I had been wanting. I just recently registered for a photography class in the fall and really needed a new camera for it. I did not dream that I would really own the camera I wanted. The ironic thing about the location where Jared choose to give me the camera is that this is the exact location where my last camera died. Now I will always remember this place as where my new camera came to life. Tears came to my eyes as I realized what an amazing husband I had. I tell him all the time that I spoil him, but the truth of the matter is that I am beyond spoiled.

On the way home from the mountain, and after taking a plethora of pictures Jared then told me that if I ever wanted, I could surprise him with a Nintendo Wii. Maybe one day I will. Until then, all I know is that I am the luckiest women on the face of the earth.

Easter!!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays and it has already come and gone. I love the bright colors, the promise of spring and the great food that accompany this holiday. I love this holiday so much that it took us two weekends to celebrate. The first stage of celebration included an intense game of Killer Bunnies and some great homemade Easter goodies. I should have taken pictures of the people instead of solely the food, but apparently my priorities are with the food.

She is simply amazing. They tasted just like real Reeses.

Easter cannot be celebrated without eating some Chow Mein nests.

Or even, my personal favorite "deviled" eggs.

The next stage happened on Easter Day. Jared woke up to me jumping on the bed claiming to have just seen the Easter Bunny (I do believe in him). I pulled him out of bed to see the spoils. Sitting on the table was a glorious Easter basket filled with a chocolate bunny, a matchbox car and an Easter egg. The Easter bunny did somehow put a new scrubber sponge thing in the basket as well. I am super excited about that. In the Easter egg was a clue. Jared had a hunt to embark on. He struggled with the first couple of clues. He claims it was because he was awakened early, but I give the credit to the amazing clue writer. After he finally finished his Easter egg hunt we sat down to an Easter breakfast of eggs and toast. We then relaxed on our "Big Daddy" love sac and watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It was a cute but random movie. After the movie we decided to have some fun with the Easter Jell-o molds I have collected. Jell-o is the best way to celebrate Easter.

After a relaxing day of doing not much of anything. We made a wonderful classic Easter dinner. The dinner consisted of ham, garlic mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and strawberry shortcake.


We had invited a friend, who is a visiting linguistic professor from Beijing. She had no idea what Easter was about and had never tasted the gloriousness of an Easter feast. She had never even heard of Jell-o. When she tried the Jell-o all she could do was giggle and ask how we made it. I was glad to introduce her to an American classic. Spending the evening with her and her friend was the perfect way to end Easter. Overall this Easter was one of the best. I was not and am not ready for it to end. I have decided to leave my Easter decorations up for at least another week to drag out the holiday. Happy Easter!!
